Holy Wells

There are an abundance of holy wells to be seen in every county of Ireland,  each possessing a unique importance. They were used originally by the ancient people of Ireland, long before Christianity came to this island.
The Celts were the first to believe in the powers of these special places and used them as such, utilizing their powers for the health and well-being of the time.  In Celtic mythology, the Well is at the center of the Celtic otherworld, a spiritual source for all. It is the healing and wisdom of the otherworld that has been sought by visitors to the holy wells throughout the centuries.
